CHAPTER 6

My name is Laura. I’m 31 years old, and I live in Bonn. I started running eight years ago – to clear my head after work. For me, running is the perfect balance to my everyday working life. However, it took a while before I got there. Knee pain kept me from being able to run regularly. A new pair of running shoes was finally the solution. Today I run pain-free. And my running shoes have even travelled with me to the other side of the world. This is my true runner story.
Getting out into the fresh air, finally getting some exercise after a long day at university. That’s how I started running in 2017. I was flexible and could exercise whenever I felt like it. Without having to adjust the rest of my daily schedule. I liked it straight away. I started to lace up my running shoes regularly. It was simply fun to run.
Unfortunately, after a while my body, or more precisely my knee, started to complain. From then on, running caused me more problems than pleasure. My knee hurt so much after exercising that I could hardly bend it.
After a long break from running, I decided that I needed new running shoes. In 2022, I visited the closest running shop – the Runner Shop in Aachen. I went there for advice. The sales assistant brought me two models to choose from. I was surprised at first because I hadn’t been asked for my running shoe size. However, the shoes fitted like a glove.
I tried on both models and walked a few meters around the store. The decision was made, my new running shoe was the U-TECH Nevos from True Motion. A running shoe brand that I had never heard of before. But that wasn’t important. I was immediately impressed by the feel of the shoe as well as the look. As soon as I had laced up the shoes and gone for a short run, it immediately felt good to run and I was more confident with every step.
The sales assistant also told me about the basic idea behind True Motion’s running shoes – to reduce the risk of running injuries with a new technology without having to compromise on the running sensation. Looking at my knee pain, which had only just subsided, my decision was quickly made.
I am now running in my second pair of True Motion shoes. After work, I’m often drawn to the Rhine, where I recharge my batteries in the great outdoors. Twice a week, I run between five and eight kilometers and enjoy every single step in the fresh air. The most important thing: I can finally run without pain again. And I’ve rediscovered running for myself.
Last year, my sister and I even travelled to the other side of the world. We flew to New Zealand and hiked in Tongariro National Park. On my feet was the U-TECH Nevos. The tour took just under five hours and led us to two volcanic lakes. There were paved roads along the way, but also unpaved paths with lots of scree. I really needed well-cushioned running shoes and a secure feeling with every step.
Almost 100 % of our technology is derived from scientific findings and biomechanical research. Prof. Dr. Gert-Peter Brüggemann, head of the Institute for Biomechanics and Orthopedics at the German Sports University Cologne for decades, is largely responsible for this. Over the past 25 years, he has been part of numerous innovative running shoe developments – and thus a sought-after expert among the giants of the industry.
