INJURIES AND PAIN WERE FINALLY A THING OF THE PAST:

‘I COULD LOOK FORWARD TO RUNNING MORE AND MORE AGAIN’

My name is Roland. I’ve just turned 50, was born in Wildeshausen, and live in my hometown with my wife and two daughters. For the past 15 years, I have been the managing director of a medium-sized family business in the beverage industry – with locations in Wildeshausen, Oldenburg, Emden, and Hamburg. Running is an indispensable part of my life. But that wasn’t always the case. Injuries and pain constantly used to get in the way. This is my true runner story.

Six and a half years ago, I was looking for a sport that I could easily integrate into my busy schedule. And something that I could do outside to enjoy nature at the same time. There were only two sports that I could think of: running and cycling. No sooner said than done, I started doing both. What I immediately liked about running was how flexible I was. Whether at home, on business trips, or on holiday, all I need are running shoes, shorts, and a shirt, and off I go.

 

I used to play squash and badminton when I was younger, but at some point, my job and family didn’t leave any room for it. It wasn’t until 2018 that I got back into exercising. I can integrate running perfectly into my everyday family and work life. I can be active in the morning before work – without sacrificing the limited time I have with my family. This allows me to reconcile everything.

‘RUNNING IS A MOOD-MAKER FOR ME’

For me, running is also the perfect way to balance my at times demanding job. I also like to go running on days when I’m particularly busy at work – before important meetings to clear my head and fill up on oxygen. I notice that I am more efficient afterwards.

 

In addition, running is also a great nature experience for me. Whether it’s the sunrise, deer watching me curiously as I run along the meadows, fog over the rapeseed fields, or simply the birds chirping – these are my favorite running companions. They are enough to motivate me to run again and again.

What’s more, running is simply good for me. I stay fit and strengthen my circulation and cardio fitness. And I’ve noticed that I get sick much less frequently since I’ve become a regular runner. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but I just feel better overall. And that’s what counts.

 

I’ve even become a little bit addicted to running. I can hardly wait to put on my running shoes and get going. And if I can’t run for a few days, I get restless and also a bit cranky. Thus, running doesn’t just have a health aspect for me, it’s also a ‘mood-maker’. I really enjoy running.

 

But that wasn’t always possible.

‘I KEPT HAVING PROBLEMS’

When I started running, I weighed about 30 kilos too much. Initially, this certainly caused problems in different areas of my body from time to time. I realized at the time that I had to take things slowly at first.

 

Nevertheless, some of these problems remained even after I had reached my target weight after a little over a year. I regularly had pain in my hips, knees, and adductors. My adductors were particularly troublesome. I was repeatedly set back and had to take long breaks. During this time, I tried out several running shoes, always focusing on getting these injuries under control. I had running analyses carried out and received advice, but things didn’t really improve.

 

I was then on the verge of seeking help from a physiotherapist. However, as I couldn’t get an appointment at short notice, I did some more research myself.

‘I WAS CONVINCED AND WANTED TO TRY IT OUT FOR MYSELF’

An article in a running magazine talked about a running shoe brand that was still unknown to me at the time. It was about the founding idea of True Motion and how they wanted to use a new technology to reduce the frequency of running injuries. That sounded like the concept I was looking for. I was quickly convinced and wanted to try it out. A positive running shoe test of True Motion’s U-TECH Nevos and brief research gave me the final push. I ordered my first pair of True Motion running shoes.

 

A good decision, as it turned out. My problems subsided and I could look forward to running again. I gradually tried out the various True Motion models. I currently alternate between the U-TECH Aion 3 and the U-TECH Vichara, and occasionally also the U-TECH Solo and the U-TECH Nevos Elements. Depending on the route, the terrain, and my mood, I choose one of the shoes.

Since buying my first pair of True Motion running shoes, I have now been running for two years without any injuries. I’d like to keep it that way.

‘I’M TOYING WITH THE IDEA OF RUNNING A MARATHON’

I enjoy exercising and running so much again that I no longer shy away from long distances. I’ve already successfully completed my first half marathon. Currently, I’m even toying with the idea of running a marathon in 2025. Looking back on the pain I had for a long time when running, it’s hard to believe.

 

I’m happy that I’ve been able to increase my running distances significantly over the last two years and can now run at least ten kilometers every two days without any restrictions or pain. I would like to increase that a bit more in 2025.
